Sabourin, a three-year Canadians veteran, beat the Wednesday midnight deadline by agreeing to a four-year scholarship at Niagara University in upstate New York.
Sabourin's signing came on the heels of Alex Baldock's signing with Buffalo University.
So while both will be Canadians again in 2009, Sabourin will be a Purple Eagle in the fall of next year while Baldock with be wearing Buffalo Bulls colors.
"We are very pleased that Brett Sabourin has joined our baseball family at Niagara University,” said Niagara head coach Chris Chernisky. “We feel that Brett will be able to step in and make an immediate impact within our pitching staff and baseball team and we look forward to his arrival.”
Both Canadians players were courted by many schools during the 2008 season after making the final 36 roster of hopefuls for Team Ontario and the Canada Cup.
Sabourin starred with Orleans Little League for several seasons before joining the Canadians 16U program in the winter of 2006. He graduated to the 18U team last season.
He attends Garneau Catholic High School in Orleans and is playing Junior C hockey with Embrun. He is also one of the hardest-throwing pitchers in the entire Premier Baseball League of Ontario, in which the Canadians compete.
"Brett is a fine young man who has worked hard both in the classroom and on the baseball field to make this happen," said Canadians' head coach Tim Nelson. "We are very pleased to see both Brett and Alex going to great programs where they will get four great years of schooling and four great years of baseball. It's a credit to both the boys and their families."
Sabourin becomes the second Canadians product to attend Niagara in recent years. Stittsville's Ryan Virtue played four seasons at Niagara 2003-07 and now works and lives in Calgary.
