Looking Towards 2009 - Winter Training Camp
ONC is looking towards 2009 with our annual Winter Camp which builds on our 2008 successes where our teams saw action from Niagara to New Brunswick to New York, with several stops along the way in Ontario, Quebec and the Northeastern US.
The season begins in late April with a 32-game schedule in the Premier Baseball League of Ontario (PBLO), the only elite baseball league in Ontario, and recognized as one of the best in Canada.
In 2008, by mid-season, our 18U team, with six 16U aged players on the fulltime roster, had knocked off five provincial All-Star teams on the way to claiming victory in the Baseball New Brunswick Invitational. This win in Miramichi marked the third consecutive week the 18U's reached the final of a prestigious tournament, just falling short in the Toronto Mets Tournament and being rained out in the final at the Baseball Quebec Challenge.
Our rebuilding 16U's were competitive in several tournaments throughout the summer and finished up the last month of the season playing over .750 baseball. Valuable experience and development was gained during the Fall Ball program, further advancing their progress.
Four ONC players were also selected by Baseball Ontario, from over 200 players province-wide, to the 37-man roster that attended the final camp for the Ontario team that played at the Canada Cup in Medicine Hat.
At season end, we wished seven of our graduating players and scholarship receipients all the best as they entered the next phase in their lives as student-athletes at universities and colleges across the U.S and Canada. Several of our players entering into Grade 12 have already been approached by schools for next year, some with offers for the fall signing period.
ONC enters 2009 with a solid core of players on both teams. The Winter Training Camp, in addition to providing off-season conditioning, allows a personal introduction to the program and our coaches for players interested in joining ONC. Over the course of the Camp, coaches can assess player's strengths and assist in areas that require development to play at the top level. This familiarity can play a key role in player recruitment to our teams.
Be part of the ONC program. Committed players looking to take their game the next step toward an elite level can join us in January at our Winter Training Camp as we ramp up for 2009.
