The Eugene Emeralds started the game on the right foot as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Bisson's Professional Debut Awaits Paperwork Solution

Contract, Visa Stand in Way of Class-A Debut

Gloucester's Chris Bisson was hoping to play his first professional baseball game tonight against the visiting Vancouver Canadians, but the lead-off hitter for the Class A Eugene, Oregon, Emeralds has been left in the on-deck circle for the start of the Northwest League season.

Blame it on the required paperwork.

Bisson, who was selected June 8 by the San Diego Padres in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft, is in the final stages of not only completing his contract negotiations, which features a $256,000 (U.S.) signing bonus, but also obtaining a visa to work in the United States.

Bisson Drafted in 4th Round

08 Jun 2010

The Ottawa Nepean Canadians wish to congratulate the future leadoff hitter for the San Diego Padres. Chris Bisson was selected Tuesday in the 4th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft (124th overall) by the Padres.

In 2010, Bisson solidified himself as one of the top players in the nation, entering the season as a preseason All-America selection by Baseball America. In 51 games and 50 starts in 2010, Bisson batted .329 (69-for-210) with 12 doubles, one triple, five homers and 35 RBIs, stealing an SEC-leading 32 bases in 39 attempts. Bisson, who ran up two 12-or-more-game hitting streaks in 2010, reached base safely in 49 of 51 games played.

Congratulations Chris, and to proud parents Rene, Roxanne and all the family.
