ONC Game to be Televised by Rogers
05 Jun 2009
Catch the Ottawa Nepean Canadians on Rogers TV this Sunday night in a matchup of all-star pitchers from the Premier Baseball League of Ontario.
Canadians' ace, Brett Sabourin, who is headed to Niagara University on a baseball scholarship in the fall, will face fellow all-star Chris Romano from team Ontario in a matchup of two of the best PBLO right-handers. The two were all-stars last week on the Ontario East squad which lost 10-6 to Ontario West in Guelph at the second annual Jim Ridley Memorial All-Star Classic. Sabourin struck out all four West hitters he faced.
Team 1200's Scott MacArthur, a long-suffering Chicago Cubs fan, will handle play-by-play duties while Ottawa 67's standout Corey Cowick, a former top-knotch catcher with the Canadians, will look after the color commentary.
The Canadians 18U have struggled out of the gate at 2-14 and have lost their last 10 games, not tasting victory since May 9. The biggest problem has been at the plate where the Canadians are hitting just .201 as a team. But that could change with the return this weekend of third baseman Khifer O'Connor, the team's No. 3 hitter, just back from Prep school in the U.S.
The Canadians are led in hitting by Kyle O'Brien with a .286 average, Stephen Bowes at .280 and Phil Brunet at .245. Alex Baldock leads the team in home runs with two while O'Brien and Brunet lead in hits with 12 each. Brunet has a team-leading eight RBIs.
The Canadians are home again June 13-14 against the Ontario Blue Jays before heading on the road for three consecutive weeks at tournaments in State College, PA, St-Bruno, PQ, and Toronto, ON.
The game will be taped with first pitch at 1:00pm Sunday and telecast at 8:00pm over the Rogers network. This will be the first in a series of ONC telecasts.
